Tensile Test shape to study feasibility of forming (Forming degree 165%) of various alloys and probing metallurgical properties. Current steel examples 22MnB5, 1.4301 (304SS) and 1.4509 (441SS). Radius < 2mm.
Demonstration model in 1.4509 stainless steel. 2mm initial wall thickness.
Formed rolling piston for automotive pneumatic shock absorbers, created in both 1.4509 and 1.4511 steel.
While the majority of our research with a diverse range of high-strength steels (air and water-hardened) cannot be shown, we can show a limited section of one part. This cross section was taken at a point of approximately 100% elongation, again illustrating HEATform's unique ability to augment wall thickness. Starting with a basic tube measuring 40 mm x 1.7 mm, this piece showed a tensile strength of between 1,000 and 1,400 MPa depending on the starting alloy and quench method selected.
